When it comes to skincare, I do understand the importance of it but I like to keep it short and effective. Long elaborated skincare routine can be a bit laborious at times. I like my skincare products to be gentle and effective. Since I have combinational skin, I have to be overparticular about what goes on it because a wrong choice can be miserable! Derma E was generous enough to send me their Anti-Wrinkle Cleanser and Scrub, It’s been a while since I started using these… Read on to know how they turned out for me…
Disclosure: This post is in collaboration with SkinActives, the products were sent to me by the brand, but my thoughts on them are absolutely genuine and true.
Lately, I have been indulging in skin care products. I am not really a skincare junkie, but I can see myself moving in that direction. The first thing I notice in my skin condition during the change of season is acne and breakouts. I started my morning and night skincare routine with Skin Actives to address this issue. Read on to know what I feel about the Skin Actives acne clearing range.

With sheet masks coming in, skin care has become a lot easier and less messy! The best way to pamper yourself on a Sunday evening is to put on a sheet mask and enjoy your favorite book. I got some exciting products to try form Patchology and I have been reaching out for these every now and then. Skin care is an absolute essential part of the day and this can be made easy and effective with the products that are right for your skin. I received some of the RYOR products from OurHappyBox a few weeks back. I have been using these regularly since then and have noticed some improvements in my skin.
A tinted moisturizer is the best option for your face during everyday summer makeup. The biggest advantage being, that it sits on the skin comfortably without clogging the pores. Also some of them come with SPF which is an added advantage. If you are not very comfortable wearing makeup, a tinted moisturizer can be your good pick. It gives sheer coverage at the same times feels light like a moisturizer. I picked up elf tinted moisturizer in the shade Ivory, it also has an SPF 20, so it looked like a good pick for summers. I have been using this since some time.
This comes in an outer cardboard packaging, inside of which we have a matte black easy squeeze tube packaging. A screw cap ensures that there is no spillage. The nozzle gives control over the quantity.
The shade name is written only on the cardboard packaging and not on the tube, which is quite inconvenient. If you have multiple tubes, then you are going to have a difficult time locating the shade.
Though the packaging doesn’t look very classy, but keeping in mind the affordability of the product, I wouldn’t complaint. The directions for use are written at the back, so that makes it user friendly.
Wearability and Coverage
The tinted moisturizer lasts well for 6 hours. Though the product says that it needs to be reapplied after every 2 hours, but I have been comfortable wearing it for 6 hours.
It gives a sheer to medium coverage. I like it for an everyday use because it looks really natural.
Quality and Texture
Talking of quality and texture, I have noticed a few things her.
The blending is a big issue, If you are applying it with fingers, it takes a little longer to blend into the skin completely. I like to apply it with a damp beauty blender for a more effortless blending.
The products looks slight patchy, if you see closely, you would notice small flaky patches, which disappear if you blend the product in the direction of facial hair.
It sits on the dry patches of the skin, and hence looks flaky.
It feels slightly heavy on the face, but gives a natural velvety matte finish.
This is my first time with stick foundation and I loved it. I am sure I’ll always have one with me. Liquid foundations are a little messy and one needs to handle them with utmost care to avoid spillage. On the contrary, stick foundations are really convenient.. no spillage, travel friendly, and overall I found them better.
It comes in 8 shades, I picked up 120 classic ivory, now the fit me compact is of the same shade and it matches my skin tone really well, but this one is lighter than my skin tone.
I have used the Fit Me Foundation and Compact previously and no doubt I quite liked it. With the stick foundation coming in, It was inevitable to give it a try. So I have used it for about 2 weeks now and here is what I think.
It comes in a plastic body, which I like. The size is quite compact, allowing you to slip in the product conveniently in your travel bag. Another thing quite unique here is, the foundation has an anti-shine powder core, to absorb excess oil.
The foundation has medium coverage. If you have some serious acne, you will have to use correctors and concealers along with this product, though it does manage to camouflage light acne. You can see me wearing it in the picture below, though it did manage to give me a good everyday kind of coverage, it did not cover my acne completely.
QUALITY, APPLICAION & WEARABILITY
The product feels light and is easily blendable if using fingers, I prefer using a damp beauty blender, with which, blending requires a little hard work.
It does give shine free finish. I have a combinational skin, and the foundation did not discriminate between the dry and the oily areas of my face, it glided on smoothly and evenly. Though it does leave a slightly powdery finish, which is noticeable on close observation but on using a fixing spray later can take that away.
It lasts well for about 6-8 hours without any touch up or a fixing spray, or even a compact.
WHY IT COULDN’T MAKE 5/5?
Blending with a beauty blender requires some hard work
Gives a powdery finish, which requires to be worked on
The coverage isn’t buildable, on building up, you would just add on to the powdery finish.
Even the slightest of change in temperature has adverse effects on my skin! Specially when the temperature gets cooler. The area around the nose and lips tends to get utterly dry! These dry patches are not only visible but even become painful most of the time. I have been noticing this discomfort since a long time until last year when I met these 2 amazing and simple hacks that cured acute dryness overnite (sometimes even instantly), which NO high end moisturizers or cold creams could do.
If you too notice dry patches and feel nothing works! Here you go…
1. Lip Balm
Yes! you heard it right 😀 Apply your lip balm (I have tried using Nivea and Neutrogena lip balms) on the dry patches. Let it sit for sometime, meanwhile you can proceed with your daily chores…. Or you can also apply it overnite and wake up to a happier skin!
I love this hack. It’s a quick fix. If heading out, you can use a clear lip balm.
P.S: I have tried the tinted lip balms also and they worked very well, but you might just want to test first if your skin is allergic to the stain (though I am sure all females are designed in a way that ‘Color on the face’ can never do any harm 😀 )
2. Coffee & Honey Scrub Pack
On a Sunday Morning when you are in a mood of some self pampering dose, mix in 1 teaspoon of honey with about 1/2 teaspoon of coffee (instant/filter), mix it well and apply the yummy pack on your face. Scrub and massage gently. Leave it on for 20 minutes and rinse it off. You will thank me for it 😀
P.S: The coffee can be slightly rough so make sure you massage gently with a very light hand.
These 2 hacks are my saviors and I am sure it would work for you as well!
A makeup addict would never say that a MAKEUP PRIMER isn’t required. In facts the rule book says it’s a crime not to prime!
Just before I take this post further, let me take a minute and explain you the whats and whys of this product, just in case you are new to this colorful world and are still exploring!!..
WHAT is a makeup primer? WHY do we need it?
Applying primer is the very first step in makeup application. It serves various purposes
Minimizes the pores and gives a smother surface for the foundation or powder to glide on easily
Your makeup base looks smoother and more natural
The makeup lasts longer
Softens and smoothens the skin
The market of-course has a wide variety of mid-high end primers available but I am here to introduce you to the cheapest, best and easily available primer which is “The Nivea Men After Shave Balm”!
Yes! That’s right we women have managed to invade in our husband’s grooming territory as well! 😀
Okay, coming back to the subject! Using the Nivea after shave balm, as the primer has been floating on the internet since quite a long time now but, I don’t know why I never took it very seriously…. In spite of the product lying right there on my bathroom counter… It just didn’t strike me or rather didn’t attract me enough to give it a try (only glittery things attract me, remember!..).
It was only last week when I gave it a shot and I was so amazed by the results! The balm did make my makeup routine much happier!
How to apply?
On a clean dry face, just before applying makeup, apply a small amount of “The Nivea Men After Shave Balm”, just like you would apply your regular moisturizer.
Wait for about 2-3 minutes before you proceed on to your makeup routine. You will love LoVe LOVE the result! I guarantee 😀 and if not, you can always wrap it, decorate it, and gift it to the man of the house 😀 In both ways it’s a great buy.
EVERYWHERE! Any general store will have it, just in case you want it online, you can buy it online from NYKAA
Rs. 225/- (but available at a discounted price of Rs. 212/ at NYKAA)
I am very sure no makeup primer would be that cheap and give amazing results! You ought to give it a try and let me know your opinion.
First of all, a very Happy New Yearto eachone of you lovely readers! With the onset of this beautiful year, Maybelline has something new and exciting to share with us. Its a range of face products, the Fit Me! range, consisting of :
But here in India we only have Foundation, Compact, Concealer and Blush to try! I was really excited when I first saw its launch on Instagram, It somehow looked very new and exciting to me!
The foundation comes in 16 shades but in the stores I could see only 6 shades. Probably we have lesser shades launched in India. Luckily the shade matching my skin tone was available.
What Maybelline claims:
” Beyond matching skin tone, it fits skin’s texture.
WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT
A natural complexion sets the stage for whatever look you’re planning to rock. With Fit Me!® Dewy +Smooth foundation you’ll get a flawless foundation that’s all your own with light to medium coverage and a dewy finish.
WHAT IT’S BEST FOR
Contains SPF 18.
Normal to dry skin ”
I picked up the foundation and the compact and here are the reviews for it:
Fit Me! Foundation
It comes in a classy packaging, a transparent bottle with a black cap, somehow reminded me of the MAC liquid foundation cases, with the difference being, this one is has a cuboid body whereas the MAC Foundation case is cylindrical. Also both of them do not have a nozzle or a pump to control the amount of product that comes out which was a turn off when I first saw it! I generally like bottles with a pump, its lot more easier to regulate the quantity.
Fit Me! Compact
It’s black and transparent packaging is quite sturdy. It has 2 layer compartments, one for the compact and the other for the sponge and a mirror attached. Its designed in a travel friendly manner and I so love travel friendly products as I am travelling often.
Quality/ The Look
Fit Me! Foundation
The foundation has a matte and smooth finish on application, It felt quite like the Lorea’l Liquid Powder Foundation . It doesn’t feel creamy, it will take some effort in blending for an even application. Also It tends to look slight flaky if you do not blend well. In-spite of hard word done in the blending process, it looked quite flaky around the nose and close to the chin. It took about 20-30 minutes to set and look natural. Also it doesn’t cover pores as well as it claims. My overall experience with it is just satisfactory! It provides light to medium coverage and is best suited for people with normal to oily skin, for dry skin people, the product will tend to be too flaky.
My Shade – 115 Ivory Ivoire
Fit Me! Compact
Now this one is surely not similar to any other compact I have come across so far! What makes it different is that its a perfect blend of a compact + shimmer. The shimmer is subtle enough to be worn all over the face . It gives a very slight sheen. Its light and spreads evenly. It gives lightto medium coverage matte effect and meant for people with normal to oily skin type.
My Shade – 120 Classic Ivory
The foundation and the compact both last well upto 8 hours after which it just looses its charm.
Fit Me! Foundation : INR 525/-
Fit Me! Compact : INR 475/-
Fit Me! Foundation : 3/5
Fit Me! Compact : 4/5
Why it couldn’t make 5/5?
The foundation tends to look flaky and needs time to settle and look natural.
The foundation doesn’t cover pores very well.
The foundation bottle needed a nozzle!
The sponge in the compact case is too thin for a proper application, I every time have to run for a powder brush.
