Maybelline Fit Me Stick Foundation | Review & Swatch

fit ma

This is my first time with stick foundation and I loved it. I am sure I’ll always have one with me. Liquid foundations are a little messy and one needs to handle them with utmost care to avoid spillage. On the contrary, stick foundations are really convenient.. no spillage, travel friendly, and overall I found them better.

It comes in 8 shades, I picked up 120 classic ivory, now the fit me compact is of the same shade and it matches my skin tone really well, but this one is lighter than my skin tone.

I have used the Fit Me Foundation and Compact previously and no doubt I quite liked it. With the stick foundation coming in, It was inevitable to give it a try. So I have used it for about 2 weeks now and here is what I think.

It comes in a plastic body, which I like. The size is quite compact, allowing you to slip in the product conveniently in your travel bag. Another thing quite unique here is, the foundation has an anti-shine powder core, to absorb excess oil.

Maybelline Fit Me Stick Foundation review

The foundation has medium coverage. If you have some serious acne, you will have to use correctors and concealers along with this product, though it does manage to camouflage light acne. You can see me wearing it in the picture below, though it did manage to give me a good everyday kind of coverage, it did not cover my acne completely.

The product feels light and is easily blendable if using fingers, I prefer using a damp beauty blender, with which, blending requires a little hard work.

It does give shine free finish. I have a combinational skin, and the foundation did not discriminate between the dry and the oily areas of my face, it glided on smoothly and evenly. Though it does leave a slightly powdery finish, which is noticeable on close observation but on using a fixing spray later can take that away.

It lasts well for about 6-8 hours without any touch up or a fixing spray, or even a compact.

Foundation on blending (with fingers)

8.99 USD

  1. Blending with a beauty blender requires some hard work
  2. Gives a powdery finish, which requires to be worked on
  3. The coverage isn’t buildable, on building up, you would just add on to the powdery finish.

Revlon Photoready Eye Art Moonlight Glitz | Review & Swatch

Revlon Photoready Eye Art

Liquid eye shadows are the new bomb in the market. After the immense success of liquid lipsticks, we could see brands coming up with liquid eye shadows. Revlon launched their liquid eye shadows lately, it’s the photoready eye art. The product is quite interesting, you have a liquid eye-shadow on one end and brilliant sparkle on the other. You can get creative and use it to create various looks. They come in 10 shades, and all of them are beautiful.

I was gravitated towards Moonlight Glitz which is deep, sort of a royal blue. I have been using it since a while and here is what I think about the product.

Revlon Photoready Eye Art

Revlon Photoready Eye Art

The packaging is exactly same as their nail art enamel. I almost missed it thinking it to be their nail polishes. On a second look I realized that it’s the new eye art.

I am not very convinced with the way they have come up with the packaging for two reasons.

A. The brushes aren’t very convenient to use, I prefer using my separate brush. Both the compartments have a separate brush, the glitter compartment brush is a thicker (and uncomfortable) version of an eyeliner brush. and the liquid shadow compartment has a brush similar to a lip gloss applicator.

B. From application point of view, the bottle feels heavy and bulky, therefore quite uncomfortable to use.

It looks interesting otherwise, a transparent packaging is always great.

I faced major issue blending the eye-shadow, I tried using a brush and finger to blend, but every time it turns out patchy and looks more like a stain. I feel this issue wouldn’t be there with the lighter shades but with this one, I faced difficulty in blending. It dries quickly giving you very little play time.

The good side is that it doesn’t crease and is water resistant.

On application the glitter feels sticky, but the issue is resolved as soon as it dries. It take a bit longer to dry compared to the eye shadow but that’s not my concern. The glitter is quite fine and looks really gorgeous and the best part is that there is absolutely no fall out. The sad part here is that you do not get intense glitter line in one stroke, you’ll have to build it up if you are using it as an eyeliner, during the process it turns slightly blotchy.

It lasts for 5-6 hours and doesn’t crease much. The glitter tends to crease a bit if used over the lids.

  1. Extremely difficult to smudge, both brush and finger application gives a very patchy finish.
  2. The packaging is bulky to use
  3. The brushes aren’t impressive
  4. Quite pricey

I hope you found the review useful, let me know if you have given a try to any of the eye art shades.

Maybelline Master Contour Palette Review

Maybelline Master Contour Palette Review

Palettes are my favorite! Most brands recently have come up with amazing face palettes. I got one from Maybelline and it’s in the shade 10 (Light to Medium), they also have a variant for medium to deeper skin tones which is numbered 20. I have been using the Maybelline Master Contour Palette for some time now and here is what I think…

Maybelline Master Contour Palette Review

The shape and size of this palette is same as the maybelline nudes collection palette (the nudes, the blushed, nudes, the rock nudes…) which I think is superb for the fact that it is extremely compact and travel friendly and of course maintains a symmetry in your palette corner.

Maybelline Master Contour Palette Review

It comes with 3 pans, with the purpose and order of use defined on it. It clearly states 1. Contour, 2. Blush, 3. Highlight, also at the back of the palette, there are clear instructions for the usage which makes it really user friendly.

It also comes with a brush which I will only use as an eyeshadow blending brush. Unfortunately it’s absolutely not suitable for the intended purpose. Again there isn’t any mirror which is so sad.

Maybelline Master Contour Palette Review

The contour shade worked really well for me. It’s highly pigmented and easily bendable.  I like using it along the jaw line, slightly beneath the cheeks and along the nose. It does a good job in sculpting  the face.

I really loved the pretty pastel pink tone they have given to the blush. It is perfectly wearable, super pigmented and again blends really well. The contour and the blush duo is my favorite in this little black box.

I had high hopes here but unfortunately I feel this is the downside to the palette. The highlighter doesn’t have any gleam to it. Even upon building it upto 4 layers, a faint glow is all that you get. I prefer using it over a cream highlighter or on the eyelids.

Maybelline Master Contour Palette Review

$9.99 to $12.99 (I saw it for $9.99 at Walmart and $12.99 at Rite Aid)

Why it couldn’t make 5/5?

  1. The highlighter isn’t fierce enough.
  2. The brush that comes along fails miserably
  3. The packaging lacks a mirror

Hope you found the review useful, you can also go ahead and do a DIY Face Palette, like I did some time back, the video below will help you know how.

Victoria’s Secret Satin Gloss Review

Victoria's Secret Satin Gloss

My love for lippers keeps oscillating between mattes and glosses, a few weeks back, I was drunk in love for matte lipsticks and lately I caught my self eyeing the glosses around. The new Victoria’s Secret Satin Gloss is a result of my newly found liking for glosses lately. A gloss is great for any occasion. It gives an overall softer look which is how I like my makeup to be.victorias_secret_gloss

So while passing by the Victoria’s Secret store, I couldn’t stop myself from peeping in and check out their new launches. These shiny glosses with so much glitter in them screamed to me and I bought them along. I picked 3 of these – Candy Baby, Indulgence and grapefruit blast. Candy Baby is a sheer nude pink, Indulgence is somewhat a beige with kind of holo glitter, this is my favorite and Grapefruit blast is a deep pink with similar glitter. Here is a detailed review 🙂

Candy Baby
Candy Baby

Grapefruit Blast
Grapefruit Blast

These come in easy squeeze transparent plastic tubes. It’s good to have transparent packaging, which easily helps you locate your shade. The cap screws securely which is really essential, you don’t want your gloss sticking around everywhere in your bag. For the applicator, I wish they had a wand along, I feel a wand gives a better control over the quantity. I personally prefer wand applicators.

Quality & Wearability

This gloss claims to be non sticky and it did stand by that. The texture is very comfortable. For the glosses with glitter, I loved the glitter quality, it’s extremely fine and gives a luxe finish. The only downside I felt was, that the glosses do not look exactly on the lips as they do in the tube, on the lips, the shade is extremely sheer, though the glitter shows well. For a casual outing, you can wear it alone but if you are wanting some color to show up, you’ll have to use it over a lipstick.

These also have strong fruity scent, which I love but some of you may not prefer scented products.

It lasts for about 4-6 hours which is great for a gloss.

The price of each tube is $10.

Indulgence, Grapefruit Blast, Candy Baby
Indulgence, Grapefruit Blast, Candy Baby

Why it couldn’t make 5/5?

  1. A brush applicator would have made my life easy.
  2. The shades are too sheer, they don’t show on the lips, the same way as they look in the tube.

Colorbar Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner | Review

Colorbar Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner

A liquid eyeliner is a great option for a quick go to makeup or an everyday wear. I got this new Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner from Colorbar, which is one of their new launch; and have loved wearing it each day. Read on the detailed review below:

What the brand claims:

“The Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner is long-lasting and does not smudge, crack, flake or peel. With its high definition flexible felt tip applicator, one stroke is enough to define a fine or thick line. Fast drying, Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner is suitable for sensitive eyes and those who wear contact lenses too!”

It comes in a small black plastic bottle with the band name and product details printed over. The brush wand has a silver outer body and is quite convenient for application. Talking about the brush, my liking towards  felt tip applicators is not so great. The tip is not at all flexible as claimed by the brand, one has to work with great precision for neatness. Whereas a more flexible tip would have made things more easier. Beginners  might have problems dealing with a brush like this.

At the same time, it’s non flexible nature helps neater application in the inner corners of the eye, where a flexible tip tends to go messy sometimes.

The pigmentation is quite an impressing factor here. It’s deep opaque black and looks quite striking.

Texture and Quality

I personally like matte eyeliners over glossy finish. This eyeliner come in a matte texture but not matte to an extend that looks dried and stiff, which is a good thing.

I wouldn’t call it waterproof, would rather label it as water resistant. It comes off easily with slight rubbing with water.

Wear ability

The first day I wore this liner to a mall where it happily lasted for 8-10 hours! But on usual office days where your eyes tend to get watery and tired (which is absolutely not the case when you are out shopping :P) the eyeliner stays neat only up till 4-5 hours after which it starts flaking off a bit.

INR 350/-

You can buy it for INR 340/- HERE

Why it couldn’t make 5/5?

  1. Not absolutely waterproof as the product claims
  2. Tend to fade off after 4-5 hours
  3. The felt tip application make the application slightly challenging

Why 3.5/5?

  1. Loved the pigmentation and texture
  2. Affordable

Let me know if you have used it before, you can also suggest me some of your favorite liquid eyeliners. 🙂

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara | Review

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

A mascara is my essential tool these days and I was thrilled and extremely happy to try out this new launch from Maybelline. The brand has lately come up with really exciting new products one of them being the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

What the brand claims

Lash Sensational® Mascara. This fresh liquid formula captures lashes from root to tip for a full-fan effect.
Exclusive fanning brush with ten layers of bristles reveals layers of lashes for a sensational full-fan effect. Ophthalmologist tested. Suitable for contact lens wearers.
Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

The Body

The mascara comes in a plastic and cardboard outer packaging (which I disposed off in the excitement of trying out the product as soon as it arrived! Totally forgot to take a picture of the outer packaging 🙁 ). Talking of the mascara tube, it’s sturdy plastic and the shape is similar to the colossal mascara tube.

The Wand

The wand, I can say is unique! I am really fond of trying various wands. In fact I personally like plastic bristles wand better. This one has  plastic bristles placed in a unique manner. The inner curve helps apply mascara from the roots to the ends and the outer curve helps fan out the lashes. It’s comfortable for coating the upper lashes. For the lower lashes, it’s slightly a messy affair. I feel a thin comb like wand helps coat lower lashes neatly and in a much better way. But with practice I have gained a better control and the mess has reduced!

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

Quality and Wear ability

The mascara is soft creamy in texture which makes it very easy to coat each lash separately. It does dry quickly once applied. It’s intense black color , waterproof nature and it’s ability to last the whole day makes it a superb choice.

It adds a considerable amount of length and volume which increases with every coat. For me 2-3 coats work the best. The images below will help you show the difference it makes.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

How to use/ apply the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

Step 1. Use inner curve to reach the roots of lashes. Sweep from the root to tip of lashes.

Step 2. Use the outer curve for a more fanned out and fuller look. Sweep from the root to tip of lashes.

Step 3. Do not let mascara dry in between coats.

Step 4. Easily remove mascara with Eye Makeup Remover.

Pice: INR 500/-

Rating: 4.5/5

Availabilty: You can buy it online from NYKAA or from the nearest maybelline counter.

Why it couldn’t make 5/5?

The application on the lower lashes is slightly difficult.

I hope you found the review useful, do let me know your thoughts in the comments section below!

Handling change of season hair madness | Garnier Fructis Oil-In-Cream | Review

Garnier Fructis Oil In Cream

Change of season brings not only cold and flu but also bad hair! This time my hair absolutely refused to listen to me and seemed to be living a life of their own.

I am a person who doesn’t like to experiment with new products on my hair. The side effects dread me! I had been noticing a lot of frizziness and hairfall since a few weeks now. I knew it was the changing weather behind the damage but I had to bring in something to stop the spoilage. I decided to stick to my weekly oiling routine. That did help but the results weren’t satisfying. I knew it was time to bring additional help into action!

I headed to the departmental store in search of a perfect mate for my hair. Studied various products and their specifications and finally picked up Garnier Fructis Oil In Cream. I have been using it since a week now and it’s time for a review!!

Garnier Fructis Oil In Cream

It comes in an easy squeeze tube. Love the bright yellow/orange packaging…. and it’s also travel friendly (I love travel friendly, glittery, nicely packaged products in general)

Garnier Fructis Oil In Cream

The product can be applied in 3 ways:

  1. Over night You can massage it on your scalp and hair and leave it over night for deep nourishment
  2. Before Hair Wash You can massage it on your scalp and hair about 30 minutes prior shampooing
  3. After Hair Wash You can use it on the length and ends (NOT roots) when your hair are still damp but the excess of water is removed.

I normally have straight (slight wavy sometimes) hair, with sometimes oily scalp and dry ends! They were perfectly fine a few years back but streaking made it behave abnormally!! Anyway, coming back… so lately I felt my hair becoming extremely frizzy after shampooing (even after using a conditioner). I used Garnier Fructis Oil-In-Cream on the length and ends after hair wash (and removing excess of water with a towel) and let it air dry.

The results I would say are satisfactory. My hair are less frizzy… I wouldn’t say that the frizz is gone completely… but it is cured to a great extent, They are much more manageable and my hair fall rate dropped drastically in 1 use! The fragrance is very similar to tresme conditioner and lasts for a day. Also the formula is completely non-sticky.

I even tried using it before wash, by massaging it on my scalp and hair but this way I noticed my roots looked slightly oily, so I dropped the idea of using it overnight.

I shampoo my hair thrice a week and use this product after every alternate wash (which makes it 1-2 a week) as my hair tend to look oily and flat if used after every wash. Another important thing worth mentioning here is, DO NOT use this product after oiling and shampooing, the look you get would be too oily!

The product did help It helped me by reducing hair fall and frizz. But over usage does lead to oily looking hair due to which I don’t feel very happy about the product.

Rs. 60/- for 100gms

You can get it easily at departmental stores or can get it online HERE

  1. The frizzyness is controlled to some extent but isn’t gone completely as the product claims
  2. My scalp feels slight oily after wash when the product is massaged onto the scalp prior shampooing.
  3. Cannot be used after a session of oil massage and shampooing (I have even tried shampooing twice after oiling, still on applying the product, hair look too oily)

Maybelline Super Stay 24 Color Review

Liquid lipsticks are the new trend this season and they seem to be a new launch for almost every brand! We had a new entry last week from Maybelline, called the SUPER STAY 24 COLOR (should have been 24hr color, for clarity). I was way too excited to give it a try and review it for you all. I was told that in comes in 12 shades. So let’s get on the review ride!!

I guess it’s the first time, Maybelline has launched lipsticks with an outer case. It comes in a transparent plastic outer case with the name written in bold red and silver on a while background… looks quite impressive. I was impressed no doubt! The actual case that is there inside the clear plastic is the usual stick with 2 compartments, one side has a balm and the other side has the liquid lipstick with a wand (of course) for application.

The 1/3rd of the case, which is the liquid lipstick container shows the exact shade, so you would know the color through the packaging, without opening the tube. The rest 2/3 of the stick is white with the name of the product written in bold red and silver, as on the outer box.

Overall, I would say, it’s bright, sturdy and travel friendly.

The lip stain on application feels velvety smooth, some what glossy (I would say, similar to the Diana of London 2000 kisses lipstick, if you have tried). In about 2-3 minutes, It starts to dry and turn matte, rather velvety matte. But But But…it’s very sticky at this point! You will actually feel your lips sticking together as soon as it dries and after 2-3 rounds of sticking-n-separating , the lip color starts to become patchy from the middle-inner side of the lower lip. (Very disappointing  🙁 ) But the balm that comes along can save you this disappointing factor. So I would say, do not rub your lips together (like you would generally do when you apply a regular lipstick) when you apply this liquid lipstick, rather once dried, immediately coat it with the lip balm. This surely makes the wear much more comfortable.

Now, on applying the balm, the lip color looks creamy for a while, but then in about 30-45 minutes, it’s back to matte. The color is absolutely non-transferable and smudge proof by now (high 5 on that… yayyy 😀 ) !

At this point, it looks amazing and you would want to check it out time and again in the mirror and you might as well go ahead and pat your own shoulder and be proud of the wise investment you made!!

But… like always, reality bumped in!!

The color started loosing grip on the inner center of the lower lip in about  45 minutes of application and in 1 hour, I could see a clear demarcation between my inner and outer lower lip… which was very very disappointing!! Even rubbing your lips together won’t help and correct that, because remember… the lip color becomes non-transferable absolutely upon drying….

Restricting this section back to the texture, the lipstick goes through texture transition phase throughout it’s life cycle… which is as follows:

  1. On Applying the lip color – It feels velvety, smooth, glossy
  2. Once the lip color sets (after 2-3 minutes) – Feels extremely sticky! 🙁
  3. On applying the lip balm – The comfort is back and feels like a smooth luxurious creamy texture (but your balm does get stained with tiny flakes of the color)
  4. After 45 Minutes – Comfortable, feels like a regular matte lipstick, quite light in fact.
  5. After 7 hours – Slight sticky and dry, the need to reapply the balm seeps in. On applying the balm the good feel is back. (There is sometimes slight powdery flaky feel at this point and which is annoying and you would need a tissue to get rid of that)

Another thing noticed was, I did feel slight flaky pigments in my mouth a few times… 🙁

The color payoff too goes through various phases (like the texture)

  1. On Application – Super pigmented and opaque. Awesome!
  2. After 45 Minutes – The color starts fading off from the inner area of the lower lip, in fact soon the color disappears from here and you are left with a clear cut demarcation between the inner and outer lower lip area. But the overall color intensity is same as on application,
  3. After 4 hours – The color further looses  grip from the lower lip demarcation line which was formed above and you can see your lower lip stained only half way. 🙁
  4. After 7 hours (which includes a meal and a few cups of coffee) – The color starts loosing it’s intensity, though it’s still there, but not really the same way.
  5. After 10 hours – There is just an thick outline over your lips ad you can say it’s time for a re-application.

Shade No. : 100

Shade Name : Very Cranberry

Very Cranberry is a beautiful, fresh pastel pink which would suit most of the skin tones. It also reminds me of the Maybelline REB-07. I feel it can be a very good everyday wear.

Maybelline Super Stay 24 Color

  1. Apply a thin layer of color to clean lips and allow it to dry completely (for about 2 minutes)
  2. Apply conditioning coat top balm for comfort and shine.

There are a few things you got to make sure before applying this duo.

  1. Your lips should be dry and clean. There should be no trace of lip balm or moisturizer else the color won’t last at all.
  2. Always wear the lip balm over the lip color.
  3. Use an oil-based makeup remover to remove the color. It doesn’t come off with water, soap or moisturizer.

INR 600/-

Currently at NewU stores, maybelline counters and online HERE

  1. It lasts for 8-10 hours but after 5 hours of application the high opaque pigmentation starts decreasing.
  2. It color doesn’t hold on the inner area of the lower lip at all.
  3.  You can sometimes feel flaky particles in your mouth.
  4. It gets a little sticky after 6-7 hours
