5 Easy Steps to Organize Makeup in Drawers

You enjoy using makeup, and you also enjoy keeping your collection organized. You’ve spent years amassing your collection, so you want to display it well.

Unfortunately, keeping cosmetics organized is more complex than it seems. If you have a lot of things, you can stack them or bury them in a drawer, making it difficult to locate anything you need.

It’s crucial to keep your makeup drawer organized. Finding everything you need makes mornings simpler and less hectic! Additionally, it stops you from losing things and having to get replacements.

Use these organizing suggestions to tame the chaos in your drawer.

How To Organize Your Makeup in a Drawer

Organize Makeup in Drawers

Keeping your cosmetics collection accessible and organized can be difficult, regardless of how big or tiny. Fortunately, many choices are available for keeping makeup on your counter or in a drawer. Better still? Depending on your makeup collection, you can also design a unique storage solution.

1. Gather your makeup and sort it into categories

Take out all of the makeup from your cabinets and drawers. Check your purse to discover how many lipsticks have been stashed inside.

Sort it into groups, such as the face, lips, eyes, brows, etc. You should tidy up the drawer where you intend to store them, and I prefer to wipe it clean with a moist paper towel simply.

2. Purge

Open each makeup item after going over it. Ask yourself these questions before discarding any items.

  • During the previous three months, have I used it? Consider throwing it away if not. Keep the stuff that will take up space at a minimum.
  • Do the foundation and concealer in your extra tubes match your skin tone? If not, discard it.
  • Do I need it? If not, discard.
  • Are you keeping it if you ever want to attend a party with an 80s theme? You may keep it, then—only one, though. Avoid hoarding things that you are unlikely to use.

Ensure you clean your makeup case because, if it’s anything like mine, it’s loaded with pigment from eyeshadow and blush. Clean everything up so that when you put your goods back, they won’t be covered in dust and color!

Since makeup does expire, if you need help remembering when you last used it or purchased it, throw it away and get a new one.

It would help if you remember the following typical cosmetics expiration dates:

Mascara expires after three months.

Expiration Date of Liquid Eyeliner: 3 to 4 months

Expiration Date for eyeshadow: 3-6 months

Expiration Date for Lipstick, Liner, and Gloss: 1 to 1.5 years

Duration of the Foundation: 6 to 12 months

The expiration date for blush and powder is two years.

There is a tiny symbol on the label of some products that indicates how long the product will last. You will see an image of an open cream jar with a number next to it that indicates how many months it will last after opening.

The expiration date begins when it is opened, not when it is purchased, so keep that in mind.

3. Select Your Container

For this project, you should use iDesign drawer organizers. They are very simple containers that are easy to use. Your brushes and palettes can be safely arranged into different compartments. With iDesign drawers, you don’t only get storage but also an attractive case.

A quick tip: Add some museum gel if your small bins slide around when you open and close your drawer. You don’t need to use much of it, and one tub lasts forever!

4. Put Every Brush You Have In A Jar

Use any container you like, such as empty candle jars, pesto jars, mason jars, and old baby food jars.

Situations like this are the reasons why I love keeping used items. You decide if you want to buy new jars, and you don’t have to go out and buy expensive jars—look around your home!

There you have it! Your mornings will be much better if you have a tidy, organized makeup drawer.

5. Select The Space You Want To Place Everything

Place each category of makeup in its bin if you have a limited amount.

Suppose you do have a lot of makeup. In that case, you can either organize it according to the categories I stated or create a special “everyday” section in your drawer before moving on to the other categories.

What I mean is this. To make it simple for you to retrieve it every morning, grab a larger container and place it near the front of your drawer.

Put all the goods in that bin you know you use daily. After that, store the extras, like eyeshadows, you don’t frequently use in separate containers underneath them that are labeled according to the category.

Conclusion

Now that you’ve organized your makeup, you can set up an area where you can easily and joyfully apply your makeup.

You can get a vanity mirror for lighting and add a designated makeup chair or stool for a comfortable seat. These additions are useful, especially if you want to enhance your makeup skills or are glamming up other people.
