Maybelline Super Stay 24 Color Review

Liquid lipsticks are the new trend this season and they seem to be a new launch for almost every brand! We had a new entry last week from Maybelline, called the SUPER STAY 24 COLOR (should have been 24hr color, for clarity). I was way too excited to give it a try and review it for you all. I was told that in comes in 12 shades. So let’s get on the review ride!!

I guess it’s the first time, Maybelline has launched lipsticks with an outer case. It comes in a transparent plastic outer case with the name written in bold red and silver on a while background… looks quite impressive. I was impressed no doubt! The actual case that is there inside the clear plastic is the usual stick with 2 compartments, one side has a balm and the other side has the liquid lipstick with a wand (of course) for application.

The 1/3rd of the case, which is the liquid lipstick container shows the exact shade, so you would know the color through the packaging, without opening the tube. The rest 2/3 of the stick is white with the name of the product written in bold red and silver, as on the outer box.

Overall, I would say, it’s bright, sturdy and travel friendly.

The lip stain on application feels velvety smooth, some what glossy (I would say, similar to the Diana of London 2000 kisses lipstick, if you have tried). In about 2-3 minutes, It starts to dry and turn matte, rather velvety matte. But But But…it’s very sticky at this point! You will actually feel your lips sticking together as soon as it dries and after 2-3 rounds of sticking-n-separating , the lip color starts to become patchy from the middle-inner side of the lower lip. (Very disappointing  🙁 ) But the balm that comes along can save you this disappointing factor. So I would say, do not rub your lips together (like you would generally do when you apply a regular lipstick) when you apply this liquid lipstick, rather once dried, immediately coat it with the lip balm. This surely makes the wear much more comfortable.

Now, on applying the balm, the lip color looks creamy for a while, but then in about 30-45 minutes, it’s back to matte. The color is absolutely non-transferable and smudge proof by now (high 5 on that… yayyy 😀 ) !

At this point, it looks amazing and you would want to check it out time and again in the mirror and you might as well go ahead and pat your own shoulder and be proud of the wise investment you made!!

But… like always, reality bumped in!!

The color started loosing grip on the inner center of the lower lip in about  45 minutes of application and in 1 hour, I could see a clear demarcation between my inner and outer lower lip… which was very very disappointing!! Even rubbing your lips together won’t help and correct that, because remember… the lip color becomes non-transferable absolutely upon drying….

Restricting this section back to the texture, the lipstick goes through texture transition phase throughout it’s life cycle… which is as follows:

  1. On Applying the lip color – It feels velvety, smooth, glossy
  2. Once the lip color sets (after 2-3 minutes) – Feels extremely sticky! 🙁
  3. On applying the lip balm – The comfort is back and feels like a smooth luxurious creamy texture (but your balm does get stained with tiny flakes of the color)
  4. After 45 Minutes – Comfortable, feels like a regular matte lipstick, quite light in fact.
  5. After 7 hours – Slight sticky and dry, the need to reapply the balm seeps in. On applying the balm the good feel is back. (There is sometimes slight powdery flaky feel at this point and which is annoying and you would need a tissue to get rid of that)

Another thing noticed was, I did feel slight flaky pigments in my mouth a few times… 🙁

The color payoff too goes through various phases (like the texture)

  1. On Application – Super pigmented and opaque. Awesome!
  2. After 45 Minutes – The color starts fading off from the inner area of the lower lip, in fact soon the color disappears from here and you are left with a clear cut demarcation between the inner and outer lower lip area. But the overall color intensity is same as on application,
  3. After 4 hours – The color further looses  grip from the lower lip demarcation line which was formed above and you can see your lower lip stained only half way. 🙁
  4. After 7 hours (which includes a meal and a few cups of coffee) – The color starts loosing it’s intensity, though it’s still there, but not really the same way.
  5. After 10 hours – There is just an thick outline over your lips ad you can say it’s time for a re-application.

Shade No. : 100

Shade Name : Very Cranberry

Very Cranberry is a beautiful, fresh pastel pink which would suit most of the skin tones. It also reminds me of the Maybelline REB-07. I feel it can be a very good everyday wear.

Maybelline Super Stay 24 Color

  1. Apply a thin layer of color to clean lips and allow it to dry completely (for about 2 minutes)
  2. Apply conditioning coat top balm for comfort and shine.

There are a few things you got to make sure before applying this duo.

  1. Your lips should be dry and clean. There should be no trace of lip balm or moisturizer else the color won’t last at all.
  2. Always wear the lip balm over the lip color.
  3. Use an oil-based makeup remover to remove the color. It doesn’t come off with water, soap or moisturizer.

INR 600/-

Currently at NewU stores, maybelline counters and online HERE

  1. It lasts for 8-10 hours but after 5 hours of application the high opaque pigmentation starts decreasing.
  2. It color doesn’t hold on the inner area of the lower lip at all.
  3.  You can sometimes feel flaky particles in your mouth.
  4. It gets a little sticky after 6-7 hours

How to Remove & Store False Lashes

BeFunky Design

In my previous post I showed you HOW TO APPLY FALSE LASHES, and in this one I shall help you remove them and store for further use.

How to remove false lashes

Removing False Lashes

One must be really careful while removing false lashes as simply pulling them may cause your original lashes to pull off along, causing pain and discomfort.

I have with me, a quick easy way of removing false lashes, for which you shall be needing

  • Tweezers
  • Q-Tips
  • Maybelline Clean Express Total Clean Make-Up Remover

All you need to do is, dip the Q-tip in makeup remover and rub it gently over your lash line. The glue would soon loose bond with the lash line and you will have your falsies removed in no time!

Storing False Lashes

If you store your lashes well, they can be used repeatedly multiple times for a longer period. The best way is to run the Q-tip drenched in makeup remover over the lash band, this will help get rid of the glue and makeup sticking.

You may now store them in the container they were initially stored or or might as well use an empty contact lens case.

The video below will give you a visual aid of the steps. How you find it useful 🙂 If you do, please subscribe!

Deep Kohled Eye Makeup | L’Oreal 16HR Infallible Never Fail Eyeliner

I have been quite enthusiastic to apply lots of kohl these days. Though a deep kohled eye makeup isn’t my favorite, but it often reminds me of my college days…. I used to wear a lot of this look!! Well, that time I had no idea I’d be a beauty blogger one day and would be embarrassed of my choice of makeup! (no offence to kohl lovers)

So coming back to where I started, lots of kohl!! I got my hands on this eye pencil from L’Oreal, which is the 16HR Infallible Never Fail Eyeliner (Black) and have been quite excited to try it out in various ways and created this look lately.

The super black, highly pigmented kohl comes with a built-in smudger and sharpener which helps create a sharp or smoked out line quickly and easily. You can buy it online HERE.

Now since I have my make-up basics sorted and in place (unlike college days), I paired kohl lined eye makeup with a neutral pinkish-beige lip color to mellow down the impactful kohl effect!

5 Essential Makeup Tools

Right tools are prime essentials for good makeup! If you have the right tools in hand, your makeup will be effortlessly good. Let me introduce you to 5 tools, that you ought to invest in.

The 5 tools that I will be addressing here, have been segregated into 2 categories – Face and Eye makeup.

5 Essential Makeup Tools

Beauty Blender

A beauty blender totally changed the look and feel of my makeup base. I had tried using hands and brushes to apply liquid foundation but nothing worked as good as a beauty blender. I got mine from Forever 21 (DLF Saket), they have amazing collection of beauty blenders. I got a set of 3 beauty blenders and costed me INR 449/-.

This wonder tool gives the most natural, flawless and dewy (if used damp) finish to your foundation and I can surely swear by it!

Powder Brush

It’s best to apply compact or any powder product with a big fat fluffy brush, which is called a powder brush. I got mine from a local cosmetic store for INR 150/- and have seen such retractable brushes in most of the cosmetic stores. Don’t think it will be much of a problem to find one… In case you are looking for some options online I can suggest you THIS ONE.

Blush Brush

Blush is an important ingredient in the makeup recipe and it’s essential to get it right. It’s a good practice to use a blush brush (thinner than powder brush) for a more natural look. I have two blush brushes, one of them is unbranded and the other one is from the VEGA brushes kit which you can buy online HERE.

Eye-shadow Brushes

Eye makeup is remarked “good” if well blended. A good set of eye-shadow brushes can help you achieve this effortlessly. These set of 4 eye-shadow brushes are my all time favorite and costed me INR 275/- you can get them online HERE.

Eyelash Curler

A quick and easy way to have instant curled lashes which makes the eyes look bigger. I got mine from Clairs and costed me INR 400/-

The cheap and best MAKEUP PRIMER

Nivea Men Balm

A makeup addict would never say that a MAKEUP PRIMER isn’t required. In facts the rule book says it’s a crime not to prime!

Just before I take this post further, let me take a minute and explain you the whats and whys of this product, just in case you are new to this colorful world and are still exploring!!..

WHAT is a makeup primer? WHY do we need it?

Applying primer is the very first step in makeup application. It serves various purposes

  • Minimizes the pores and gives a smother surface for the foundation or powder to glide on easily
  • Your makeup base looks smoother and more natural
  • The makeup lasts longer
  • Reduces redness
  • Softens and smoothens the skin

Nivea Men Balm

The market of-course has a wide variety of mid-high end primers available but I am here to introduce you to the cheapest, best and easily available primer which is  “The Nivea Men After Shave Balm”!

Nivea Men Balm

Yes! That’s right we women have managed to invade in our husband’s grooming territory as well! 😀

Okay, coming back to the subject! Using the Nivea after shave balm, as the primer has been floating on the internet since quite a long time now but, I don’t know why I never took it very seriously…. In spite of the product lying right there on my bathroom counter… It just didn’t strike me or rather didn’t attract me enough to give it a try (only glittery things attract me, remember!..).

It was only last week when I gave it a shot and I was so amazed by the results! The balm did make my makeup routine much happier!

Nivea Men Balm

How to apply?

On a clean dry face, just before applying  makeup, apply a small amount of  “The Nivea Men After Shave Balm”, just like you would apply your regular moisturizer.

Wait for about 2-3 minutes before you proceed on to your makeup routine. You will love LoVe LOVE the result! I guarantee 😀 and if not, you can always wrap it, decorate it, and gift it to the man of the house 😀 In both ways it’s a great buy.

Nivea Men Balm

EVERYWHERE! Any general store will have it, just in case you want it online, you can buy it online from NYKAA

Rs. 225/- (but available at a discounted price of Rs. 212/ at NYKAA)

Nivea Men Balm

I am very sure no makeup primer would be that cheap and give amazing results! You ought to give it a try and let me know your opinion.

DIY Highlighting Concealer

DIY Highlighting concealer

I had been looking for a concealer since long, was oscillating between Maybelline Fit Me concealer and the L’oreal true match concealer but then one fine day while I had my creativity hat on, a beauty hack struck me and I ended up with a DIY highlighting concealer!

DIY Highlighting concealer

It’s not only absolutely cheap but also works really well, in fact, I have been wearing it very often ever since I made it.

The beauty of DIYs is that you can customize the product as per your own convenience and requirement. Here you can modulate the highlighting effect by controlling the amount of eye-shadow going in.

You will need

A white highlighting eye-shadow

(The one I used is from a local brand)

Now we don’t really want the eye shadow to be very highlighting, it should be just enough to brighten up the areas where applied

Foundation of your skin tone

(Maybelline Fit Me – 115 Ivory Ivoire)

The highlighting concealers that you get in the market are lighter than your skin tone (and that’s why they brighten up the areas where applied) but here we will be needing the foundation of your matching skin tone, because the eye-shadow when added will lighten and brighten up the shade.

A container for storage

You can get really good containers from Forever21 or NewU stores.

A toothpick for stirring
